Rarely do you see a two sport star in the sports of baseball and basketball but that is exactly what Northwestern State is getting. Tyree Thompson (6’4 SG Edna Karr) decided to end his recruitment in the early period yesterday as he inked with the school to play both sports. There is no doubt the Demons are getting a real difference maker in both sports.

On the diamond, Tyree is a right handed pitcher who touches the 90s and has numerous pitchers. He doubles as a shortstop on his days off but is expected to pitch at the next level. The Demons have another player who will play both sports that’s a freshman on campus.

This summer was big for Thompson as he showed off his abilities on the Nike EYBL circuit with Elfrid Payton Elite. He’ll start on the perimeter for Edna Karr as they look to make a title run in 4A. Thompson has range beyond the three point line and budding athleticism that allows him to finish in traffic. The defensive end is where he really impressed this summer.

When asked about signing early he simply said, “I didn’t want to miss a good opportunity like that.” Afterwards he confirmed he’ll play both sports.
