With the start of the season later today, we are ready to introduce some of these fabulous freshmen. Here are ten freshmen who can make an impact starting tonight.
Sydney Curry – Fort Wayne Bishop Luers
There isn't going to be a bigger impact freshmen than Curry this year. Bishop Luers got a few transfers and should be quite a bit better but it all centers around Sydney and his size inside. He'll stretch the floor and look to be dominant going at the rim from Day One.
Keion Brooks – Fort Wayne North
Brooks is the second best talent in the state but his impact will be varied at times. Mainly because he has quite a solid cast around him this season at North. They should be really good and they won't have to rely on one guy to get them through each game. However, Brooks is going to have big games regardless, just a bit spread out.
Isiah Moore – Park Tudor
Moore should step in and be the second piece to one of the better backcourts in the state with Kobe Webster at Park Tudor. Isiah will be more like what Bryce Moore was last year taking some pressure off Kobe as the primary ball handler.
Dexter Shouse – Lawrence North
Shouse is in a similar situation as Brooks this season as he is also on a stacked team and he won't be relied on to be an impact guy in order for them to win games. However, Dexter should provide perimeter shooting early on and driving and athleticism as the season goes on.
Cobie Barnes – Floyd Central
Barnes should have some big games. He will make up a solid group of post players for Floyd Central. Sturgeon, Gohman, and Cobie are going to be tough and Barnes will be the one that stretches the floor. He's shown toughness on his driving already, expect that to be a big part of his game.
Isaiah Thompson – Zionsville
Thompson looks to be one of the biggest impact guys this year. He's going to start and be a big reason for Zionsville's success. He'll run the backcourt with Riley Bertram and should get a chance to put up big points. Already shown a knack for being aggressive on the defensive end.
Trayce Jackson-Davis – Center Grove
Trayce has as high of an upside as anyone in this class and he'll get a crack at it from Day One. The 6'6 wing will play more of a post role for Center Grove but offensively he'll give them a guy who is growing as a shooter and a solid driver from the perimeter. His length should go a long way to helping on both ends.
Nelson Mbongo – West Lafayette
Nai Carlisle has been looking for another scoring option and he should get that with Nelson. The 6'3 guard is tough and scrappy near the basket. He's got enough scoring prowess to be effective with West Lafayette's schedule. Won't be a big shooter early on but gets points in quite a few other ways.
Noah Applegate – Penn
Applegate will play for Penn as a freshman. Starting freshman isn't normal for an Al Rhodes team. Noah has a good body and will provide size in the post with an ability to run the floor and do things all over the court as well. Noah has quite a bit of upside and could be one of the best in the South Bend area really soon.
Emanuel Brown – Indianapolis Scecina
Not many teams lost quite as much as Scecina did this past year but they get a nice replacement scoring option with freshman Emanuel Brown. He's tough and strong already and is very aggressive. Brown should get the nod early on and can play either guard spot who could put up big numbers as a freshman.
