Williamsburg Christian Academy enters the new season with conference supremacy on their minds. With an abundance of returning and incoming talent, there is a good chance this goal will become a reality. Last season the Eagles made a strong run to the state semi-finals finishing with a 25-12 record, but ultimately fell short of their state title hopes. This season, 1st year head coach Chris Brown will bring to the court a versatile and athletic team, capable of taking over the Metro Conference.
When asked about his team’s potential, the new coach stated, “We will rely on our depth and quickness, and play an up tempo style. We will be looking to contend in the conference with Atlantic Shores for the title, and to return to the state championship. “
Williamsburg Christian Academy will not be the biggest team in the state this season, admitting they are without a true post player. To overcome their lack of height, they will feature a team with superb athletes and play a fast paced style of basketball. Leading the break will be senior, Xavier Green, who is the reigning Metro Conference player of the year and recently committed to play for ODU. As a junior, Green put up big numbers across the board with 19PPG, 7 RPG, and 7 APG. He will be counted on to continue his elite play.
The Eagles, however, are certainly not a one man team. Green will be surrounded by plenty of capable scorers including senior Andre Brown and newcomer Cle’Von Greene. Andre Brown is coming off a successful season in which he earned First Team All Metro Conference, and was second leading the team in scoring with 16PPG. Greene, a transfer from Grafton High School, will seek to pick up where he left off last year after averaging 25.6PPG and 6RPG. The players mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg as the entire Eagles roster is capable of breaking out at any moment.
“ We’re looking for Xavier Green to again lead the way, but we have a number of players who are capable of stepping up big,” Coach Brown said.
Williamsburg Christian’s ability to constantly attack teams on offense and share the rebounding responsibilities will play a large part in their success this season. With this in mind, expect to see this team not only making their way to the top of the conference, but be serious contenders for a state title come March.
