The 6-foot-7 senior recently received an offer from the Air Force Academy, and the military life is something he is interested in potentially pursuing. This means he can take that offer or look for something else as his senior season unfolds.
“I don’t have other offers, they (the other schools) were waiting to see how this season goes and see if I make a decision on the Air Force because I’m definitely interested in that as of now,” TenHove said.
The forward has plenty of other schools looking at him, too. He is ranked No. 44 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 200 and has garnered interest from Div. I programs like Princeton, South Dakota State and American University. All of these coaches like everything he can bring to their team.
“They really like my versatility,” TenHove said. “If I have a smaller guy I can post up and bully him and bigger guy I am quicker and can take him to the basket. They think I can hopefully make a quick impact when I get there as a freshman.”
These coaches have told him they see him most likely at the three position in college, but potentially as a stretch power forward as well. With that potential, TenHove has been hitting the weight room to improve his conditioning and overall athleticism.
He has also been working on improving his offensive game for the new system being instilled by first year head coach Barak Coolman at Valparaiso.
“It’s been great so far, he’s really opened up the offense,” TenHove said. “I’m excited about the opportunities and it seems like a special group this year and we really like him so far.”
TenHove also hopes his high school season could lead to more official offers if he doesn’t decide to go to Air Force. He plans to visit the school in January and will likely make a decision on the offer on the official visit.
“I like how prestigious the academy is and the job security that I can get a job guaranteed afterward definitely the military aspect of the school,” he said. “If I really like it there, I’ll probably commit when I’m there.”
