Louisville KCD shooting guard Colin Ferguson has seen quite a few of schools show interest in him over the past few months.
The 6-foot-3 senior was able to list six programs — Division III and Division II — that have sent him mail, or been in contact with him in some form or another.
“I’ve heard from Transylvania, they've been contacting me a lot. Mount St. Joseph (OH) has had some interest. Wheelock College in Boston, they’ve had interest. I’ve talked to a player at Centre College and he informed me that they’re interested in me. Cedarville is a D2 school in Ohio that’s shown some interest, and then Wabash (IN) has shown interest too.”
“I’d say Transylvania is showing the most interest, I get a letter from their assistant coach about every two weeks,” said Ferguson, who says his goal is to get some larger schools to notice him this season.
“This year I’m really hoping to get some more D2 looks, and maybe some smaller D1 looks — those are some goals of mine.”
While playing with the Louisville Prospects last spring and summer, Ferguson says his quickness improved the most.
“I saw the most improvement with just my overall quickness, I worked on getting quicker and it really helped my game,” he said. “It helped me penetrate to the basket and that would help get my teammates open.”
The 6-foot-2 shooting guard characterized his style of play to PHK.
“I’d say probably my strongest suits are scoring the ball offensively, and just understanding the game, my IQ. I’m a good passer, I like to get my teammates involved. And then on-ball defense is also a strength of mine,” he said.
“I’d say I’ll need to continue to work on my mid-range jumper, beating my guy off the dribble and hitting a 15-footer, my strong suits are 3-point shooting and getting to the hoop, so I’m really trying to get my mid-range down.”
As he heads into his senior season with the Bearcats, Ferguson says he’ll have to be the team’s primary leader.
“I’m a senior so I’ll have to lead the younger guys,” he said. “I feel this year I’ll really need to set an example for the younger guys, just get them involved and help build their confidence.”
