Tonight's match-ups are sure to entertain despite the football players and early season rust. Games get underway at 5:15.
The first match-up is between McMain and Holy Cross. Both teams missed the playoffs but are sure to be improved this year. Xavian McKay for Holy Cross is an athletic guard who seems to have put it together this summer. He'll be an integral piece if Holy Cross wants to make playoffs.
Next up is Warren Easton versus Country Day. Coming off a Top 28 in 1A, 2017 PG Romin Williams and company are looking to make a similar run in a tough 2A. Their guard play which includes 2016s Michael Corchiani and Trey Harrell will be the determining factor. Easton looks to improve on the 20 seed from last year and Brenton Jarrow will be the key player as a 6'6 F.
Hosts McDonogh 35 take on Ben Franklin who missed the playoffs last year. McD 35 is coming off a Top 28 run and are led by the two UMass signees in Dejon Jarreau and Brison Gresham. The emergence of young players like Cardiz Humble will be crucial to their success. They are a favorite in 4A this season.
The final game of the evening matches up last season's 4A champion in Landry-Walker versus an always threatening team in St Augustine. Both teams have numerous players out due to football but will still field deep rosters. Top 5 players in 2016 Lamar Peters (Miss St commit) and Cameron Lard for LW will lead the way while Devante Jones and 2017 star Caleb Daniels will hold down the fort for Aug.
