Led by senior guard Connor Holly and his 14 points, University looked the part of a team that could make some noise later on down the road this season. Holly led a balanced attack that showcased quite a bit of inside out game. Sophomore post Emerson Haliblieb had 13 points and 6 rebounds and was really impactful in the paint. Shortridge lacked size but zoned putting Emerson in a lot of double-teams down low. He was still able to be effective doing most of his work in the first half.
In the second half it was more of Holly who should solid shooting stroke from three and a little aggressiveness driving to the rim. However, he was only the second leading scorer behind sophomore Josh Watson. Watson hit five three-pointers for 15 points. Sophomore David Howard, a transfer from Carmel, chipped in 10 points.
Shortridge is without any scorers from last year. This is essentially a completely new team. They will have quite a few kinks to work out but freshman point guard Erikmycal Powell showed some promise at times. He only had three points but made plays in the second half where they were able to make a run. Ahmed Bryant was effective scoring the ball as he led them with 11 points.
