Continue ReadingHall of Fame games are beginning around the state and last night Chalmette hosted 4 games that included area teams. We'll recap everything here but there was plenty of talent, both known and unknown, in the gym last night. With multiple college coaches there to watch, early season basketball was in full effect.
West Jeff 66 Slidell 46
The first half was closely contested until a late run by West Jeff created a sizable margin. The athletes and veteran presence across a roster that was missing 5 key contributors between injury and football really dialed up the pressure in the second half to come away with the easy win.
Slidell is young and has plenty of talent including both Merriman brothers (Marc and Jonathan) who are in 10th and 9th grade respectively. For West Jeff, 2016 F Ray Anderson finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds that included a monsterous dunk and an nice display of perimeter shooting.
Kyle Pollar finished with 14 points for West Jeff while Terrance Cayman had 13.
Fountainbleau 69 Archbishop Shaw 58
In what turned out to be the best game on the schedule, Shaw found themselves up big early but Fountainbleau kept chipping away. Shaw jumped out early to a double digit lead but consistent play throughout the first half found Fountainbleau within striking distance going into the half. After an early run that saw them take the lead, the confidence and momentum had swung and Shaw was never able to regain it.
Shaw was led by two 2018 guards in Daelon Murdoc and Jordan Smith. Murdoc displayed an impressive shooting stroke from outside while Smith handled the ball and finished around the rim as a young guard with nice size.
For Fountainbleau, 2017 G Roy Ford led the way with 33 points and was instrumental in the big run that spanned both halves. He really took over the game late. 2016 G Christian Seither scored 21 points and most of that came from beyond the arc. It was his shooting that kept it close early.
Chalmette 72 St. Paul’s 46
This game had the billing of a showdown in the post with 7 foot 2017 F/C Mitchell Robinson for Chalmette against the big front line of St. Paul's that includes 6'7 2016 F Harrison Prieto and 2018 6'8 F Chandler Owenby. However, the guard play of Chalmette ended up being too much for SPS to handle.
The defense for Chalmette gave them a halftime lead of 37 to 26 as 2017 wing Tyler Babcock led SPS with 18 on the game. Robinson's defense around the rim limited any inside scoring for SPS. He had nearly 10 blocks that included multiple in the stands and couple three point attempts as well.
Robinson finished with 17 points for Chalmette while their lone senior Blake Coker scored 28. 2017 PG Carlton Campbell didn't score a lot but he ran the show and consistently got teammates open.
Jesuit 56 Northshore 39
The consistency of Jesuit was impressive throughout and more than Northshore could handle. Jesuit made life tough play after play and went out to a 27-12 halftime lead thanks to that defense. It wasn't until the 4th quarter that Northshore got some open looks but by then the game was well out of reach.
Tulane head coach's son 2017 Brendan Conroy had 14 on the night while senior Rob Weiss added 15. The other scoring was spread out and was enough to beat a struggling Northshore squad who was led by 2017 G Spencer Aubin who had 13.
