Even with no varsity exposure — it’s tough to crack the Linn-Mar lineup as an underclassmen — Tyler Voves has seen some interest come his way.
The sharpshooter gained exposure with the Iowa Mavericks this offseason, and also was a regular attendee at camps and combines.
“I talked to Wayne State a little bit, they invited me to their elite camp, I know Coe has talked to me, Graceland is another one. Those are just a few of them so far,” said Voves.
“I did attend the Wayne State camp and it went good, I still get letters from the college and I talked to the head coach a little bit. He just said he was glad to see me there and they’d be looking forward to following my career.”
While playing with the Iowa Mavericks, Voves says he worked to sharpen his point guard skills.
“I think I excelled at shooting and just controlling the game, I did a lot more point guard this year, I started the spring as a shooting guard. My best improvement was seeing the court better, and then I improved my shooting and passing,” said the 6-foot junior.
“I think my strengths are court vision, passing, and shooting. I like scoring off pick-and-roll offense, and I like to set my teammates up with kick-and-drive looks. I’m hoping eventually to fully transition into point guard, as of right now I’m a shooting guard, but I’m pushing myself to become more of a point guard.”
With his junior season ahead of him, Voves will be playing behind Division I talents Jordan Bohannon (Iowa) and Jared Printy (Western Michigan). But embraces the opportunity to contribute.
“I see my role as probably a team player doing the little things, helping them out, probably coming off the bench and getting them (Printy, Bohannon) some rest,” said Voves.
