Tajen Ross has begun to make a name for himself after a strong summer playing with Kingdom Hoops, and a nice showing at our Prime Time Prospects Combine last month.
Despite no varsity experience — he played with Waukee’s sophomore team last season — the 6-foot-2 guard has seen some initial NAIA interest come his way.
“I’ve received lots of NAIA interest, Waldorf is the main school, they’ve emailed and text me, and they’ve called me too. I’ve seen some letters from Briar Cliff, but not as much as Waldorf has,” said Ross. “Waldorf reached out to me first, I reached out to Briar Cliff first.”
While playing with Kingdom Hoops this offseason, Ross says his focus was working on his slashing ability.
“I thought I really excelled in getting to the rim, and then my pullup jump-shot improved. Some things I need to improve on I’d say are passing, and maybe a little bit of defense, especially help side defense,” said Ross, who mentioned though he can always improve defensively, it’s part of his game he takes seriously.
“I’m a fast-paced kind of guy, I like to get out and run and get fast buckets. Defensively, I like getting up in my man and getting the ball. I think to get a good stop or a steal it feels better than getting a bucket to be honest.”
After starting with Waukee’s sophomore team last year, this season he made the transfer to neighboring ADM, where he’ll be an integral part its possible success.
“Why I transferred was I wasn’t getting the playing time that I thought I deserved,” said Ross. “This year I’ll be the starting three-man for ADM, and I’ll be a key player on the team.
