The 6’7” four man is a skilled and big bodied lefty that has a great knack for knowing how to score on the block. He has a soft touch around the hoop and shoots a high percentage from the field. The post is coming off a strong July with Meanstreets and looking to make some noise with his high school team as a senior. He spoke with us about how open gyms and fall league is going preparing for this season.
“Really good. We have a great group of guys this year. Different from last year, but they work hard and I see a lot of potential with us.”
Edwards will be looked at to take on an even bigger load with the graduation of Evan Boudreaux, but he proved on the circuit he is ready for that. Currently Edwards ranks as the #12 overall prospect and #3 power forward in the state’s 2016 class. He updated us on his recruitment.
“It’s been pretty much the same, but a lot of schools recently have been to workouts or are coming to see me like Iowa, Boston College, and some other ones.”
Currently Edwards says he holds only a pair of offers from Loyola and Tennessee State. He tells us there are a trio of schools that he is hearing from most consistently.
“Furman, St. Louis, and Buffalo the most.”
Edwards is taking his time with the process as he has not scheduled any official visits and doesn’t plan on inking a national letter of intent during the early signing period in November as he told us his timetable.
“Play out the season and decide.”
What will be important for him in a program?
“Definitely the location of the school. What type of coaches are there and the guys on the team if I can connect with them.”
