Kevin Smith may not be a top flight Division 1 level prospect but when you see him play you know that he has the basketball IQ and intangibles to play somewhere at the next level. Kevin is an undersized post player but he takes that on as a challenge and uses the speed and shooting to his advantage.
“I consider defense to be one of the stronger aspects of my game. Also, I have the ability to knock down mid-range jumpers along with 3-pointers.”
Kevin is most likely a D3 prospect due to his size, style of play and his grades make him intriguing as well.
“Honestly, no colleges have reached out to me so far.”
Kevin steps into a starting role for Parkview Baptist this year and hopes to bring the eagles back to the playoffs.
“I have been working on making my shot more consistent. Also, I will be taking on a different role this year, therefore I have been working on my rebounding.”
Kevin must work hard on defense to hold his own down low.
“I try and focus more on the defensive end of the game. The offensive end will come if I hustle and play team basketball.”
Kevin is a great stretch forward because not many post players can stretch the floor like he can and draw post players away from the basket.
“This season I will be playing the center spot on my team. Therefore, I will play more in the post and less on the wing. I will need to be active on the boards and a strong post defender.”
Kevin has the ability to translate into a wing at the next level with a few years of development.
“I am 6'3 and at this height I feel I have a very good jump-shot. Also, I feel as if I am an athletic player who can run the floor very well.”
Smith has superb grades which should attract high academic programs.
“Currently I have a 4.0 GPA and I have only taken the ACT once. I received a composite score of 25 on the ACT.”
