At 6-foot-1/6-foot-2 Van Egdom can play a couple spots for his team and after a great junior season, much is expected of Keegan.
“I shot 48 percent from three and was a 92 percent free throw shooter last year at SFC, so my goal is to do a better job of creating my own shots, getting to the line more as well as defending further from the rim this winter,” Van Egdom told PHD.
“I'm a 6'2″ senior and weigh 190 pounds and I just turned 17 a few months ago so I hope I have some growing to do yet.”
The Dakota Bucks were a pleasant Grassroots surprise this year winning 17 of 19 games and showing people in Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska this spring/summer that South Dakota has talent.
“I played SG/SF for the Dakota Bucks this summer and we had a great season. We could only get into four tournaments because so many guys are multi sport players so we had to balance that, but what a great group of athletes.
“I averaged 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists per game this summer. I tried to be a triple double type player this summer by making good decisions at both ends of the court.”
Keegan will be a college athlete but what will he decide on? Like he said, he’s one of these three sport athletes who is always competing in some shape or form.
“I also play baseball (CF/SS) and football (RB/CB),” Van Egdom told PHD. “I received all state honors my sophomore and junior year in baseball, and my junior year in football in addition to my junior basketball honors .
“I'm excited for my senior year in all three sports. In football this year we are ranked third at 5-1 and I've rushed for 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns as we push toward playoffs. In basketball we have enough talent at SFC to have a very successful season. Our goal is simple, a state championship. With our returning seniors and roster, anything less will be a disappointment.”
Between his three sports Keegan is talking to pretty much every college in the region. You name the local school he’s talked to them about at least one of his sports.
“As far as post high school I am having conversations with several schools about all three sports. I am hopeful I can make my final decision soon after the football season, but right now I'm just enjoying visiting schools, meeting great coaches and having fun with my teammates as a senior in football and looking forward to basketball and baseball seasons down the road.”
