The 6’6” combo forward continues to improve athletically and with his perimeter skills. He is moving more fluidly than we saw him even a few months ago during July. Bottorff has great shot mechanics and a pure stroke from mid-range.
We caught up with him at the recent PrepHoopsIllinois Combine to see how the event went.
“It is pretty good. I like it. A lot of new faces that I haven’t seen before. A lot of combine drills that I haven’t done before. Excited to see how I compare myself to other people.”
Bottorff played with the Illinois Irish 16U on the circuit which had a stellar spring and summer.
“It went really well. I think we only lost like five games. We got second place in the last tournament in Kansas City. I think we got better as a team and are looking forward to playing next summer as well.”
The junior talked about where he is working on his game.
“I have always been big and been able to shoot. Over the last year I have really worked hard on improving my ball handling and my overall strength and agility. I have gained 15 pounds in the last three months of muscle. I have worked on my body and gotten quicker. Turn myself more into a guard.”
He is now preparing for his high school season.
“Fall league is going good playing in the Illinois Irish Fall League. We have a good team and are doing pretty well. Open gym has been going good. We have a lot of guys who are playing football that aren’t there. We should have a really good team this year.”
Although it is still relatively early in the process the junior has heard from several colleges.
“I have gotten some text messages and stayed in contact with Colgate where I went up there this summer. I went to a camp at Central Missouri. I have stayed in really close contact with them. I really like that school. I am also hearing from Holy Cross and Lehigh.”
