“I’m looking for a program that wants to coach me as much as I want to be coached,” Monix said.
For the 6-foot-8 senior, this type of feedback gives him the chance to become better everyday. So far, it has led to great things. Monix is rated the No. 136 prospect in the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 180 and has garnered interest from various college programs.
He has recently been in contact with Illinois Wesleyan, Wabash College, IU Kokomo and Rock Valley College.
These coaches have told him his willingness to listen to them is something they want in a future player. They also enjoy the 6-foot-8 player's physical skills.
“A lot of coaches say they like how I can kind of stretch it out to about 15 feet, and they like my defensive ability and being able to alter shots down low,” Monix said.
Most of the coaches have said they see Monix as a four or five, but to be a more effective forward he knows he needs to keep improving his outside game.
“I’ve been working on stretching it outside a little bit more and really working on my offensive arsenal,” Monix said. “Obviously have to develop my outside game a bit more to excel at the four.”
With Monix focused on improving his game he hasn’t set a timeline to make a college decision. He took a visit to Wabash and an unofficial to Illinois Wesleyan, but he plans to take more visits and eventually at some point in the future sit down and talk with his family to make the best decision for himself.
While waiting for that final day, he just hopes to see himself improve and push his Lowell High School team.
“I’m feeling really good about the high school season and think we will be extremely competitive and absolutely have expectations for a sectional title and very strong competition toward a conference title,” Monix said.
