Bishop McNamara 6’4” senior shooting guard Daniel Hoekstra is a tough wing that that showed very well athletically slashing to the hoop and finishing through contact in the paint at the recent PrepHoopsIllinois Combine. Hoekstra who is known for being a plus shooter did that only in limited fashion instead displaying his athleticism cutting to hoop and hitting the offensive glass for second chance points. Tough player that does the little things well. Nice D3 and NAIA prospect in the 2016 class.
The senior discussed his experience at the event.
“It is going pretty good. It is a good way to get my name out there more and get things rolling.”
Hoekstra talked about his summer with Chicago Lockdown on the circuit.
“It went really well. We had a solid team and a lot of good guys. We played well together. Really got my name out there. It was good for me and our team.”
What are the strengths in his game?
“I am really active on the offensive glass. I can get to the basket and finish pretty well. Shoot the mid-range.”
The Bishop McNamara standout updated us on his recruitment.
“I have taken visits to DePauw, Illinois Wesleyan, and St. Norbert. I am also visiting Augustana.”
He broke down each visit starting with DePauw
“With DePauw I like the campus and all the players. It was a nice group of people. All the buildings look really nice.”
Illinois Wesleyan he has a personal tie to him.
“I know Coach Rose because he played with my dad in college. That was a really good feel and everything went well for me on the visit.”
St. Norbert is another school he recently saw.
“The campus was beautiful and the coaches really connected with me.”
What will be important in a program for him?
“Mainly a connection with the coach and the connection with the players. Also the type of offense they run and if that would fit my style of play.”
The senior spoke with us about a timetable for his decision.
“I will probably wait until after the season to see how everything plays out.”
