Colt Richardson has been an interesting story at Webster City over the past two seasons.
The 6-foot-5 power forward was tremendous during his sophomore season, before seeing his numbers decline last season as a junior.
After a summer revitalizing his game with Fort Dodge-based grassroots program AEFS, Richardson is ready to get back on track as a senior with the Lynx this season.
“That’s behind me and I feel like this year I have to prove myself that much more, and I’m ready to do that,” said Richardson. “I’d like to raise my rebounding and points per game.”
While playing with AEFS this spring and summer, Richardson says he was able to dramatically improve his ball-handling, while continuing to hone his midrange game.
“I felt like my mid-range was already strong, but the coach strengthened it even more. I feel like every single part of my jump-shot got better. My dribbling and driving skills have really improved a lot since the beginning of the spring, and I feel like those could be strong suits this year, in addition to my jump-shot,” said Richardson, who defined his playing style to PHI.
“I feel like something that sets me apart from other guys is my communication, and understanding of what other players can do. I’m good at adjusting my game so that I can help them out, and they can help me out.”
As he heads into his final season with Webster City, the talented post has been proactive with his recruitment, resulting in area NAIA and Division III interest.
“I’ve been in contact with NCSA and they’ve helped me along the way. I’ve been in contact with William Penn, Dordt, Buena Vista, and those are the serious ones I’m thinking of right now, and also Wisconsin-Platteville. They’ve all contacted me, and I just got back from William Penn last weekend, I talked to their coaching staff about things,” said Richardson, who’s hoping to generate some Division II interest this season.
“I’d would really like to go to a Division II school. I’m hoping I can get some more looks and some scholarship offers this season.”
