When we last spoke with Glenelg Country wing CJ Wilson his recruitment had yet to begin, but after a summer playing on the 16U grassroots circuit, the wheels are now in motion.
The 6-foot-2 wing has been on two Division I campuses in the last few months, and has seen some mail come in from two out-of-state Division III programs.
“I took a trip to American University, that was a nice experience, I met the coach and he was cool. It was just a real good experience there,” said Wilson. “I also went to Princeton for an elite camp, and I really liked their campus, and I met their coach too, everyone there was nice, and good.”
“I got some other interest from mostly D3s. I got interest from Dickinson (PA), they saw me play in North Carolina, and the other school is North Carolina Wesleyan, they’ve been sending me a lot of letters.”
Though his recruitment is starting to pick-up, Wilson still feels under-recruited.
“I definitely hope my recruitment picks up, I think I’m one of those players who is underrated, and hopefully I can show that this season,” he said.
While spending his offseason once again playing 6th Man Warriors, Wilson says his ability to attack the rim is where he saw the most improvement.
“It was a great experience, last year we didn’t have as many players and we added a lot of talented guys this year. I think I improved on my jump-shot and going to the rim more. At the beginning of the summer I wasn’t really getting to the hoop much, but towards the end I was,” said Wilson, who is ready to start his junior season with the Dragons.
“Some of us will have to step up this season, including myself. I’ll bring mostly rebounding, and leading the team. I’ll be there to make sure everyone tries to stay focused,” said Wilson.
“I’m going to continue to work on my pull-up jumper, it was good in the offseason, and I’m hoping that continues into the high school season.”

Though he missed more than half of the season due to torn tissue in his hip area, Glenelg Country sophomore CJ Wilson was able progress as a player.
The 6-foot-1 small forward averaged 5.4 points per game in his second year starting with the Dragons before sustaining the season ending injury.
“I was hard working, I really worked on the rebounds,” said Wilson. “Especially because my shot wasn’t really falling.”
“I bring a lot of defensive — I love the defensive side, I believe good defense creates offense”
He’s back to 100 percent now and though last summer he played AAU ball with 6th Man Warriors, he says he’s undecided on what program he’ll play with this offseason.
“I’m still deciding on it, it’s either going to be Mid-Atlantic Select or 6th Man Warriors,” said Wilson, PHM’s 68th-ranked 2017. “ Mid-Atlantic asked me to play with them, they saw me play last summer when we played a couple games against them”
The talented sophomore explained to PHM what he'll look to improve this season.
“I think I should attack the rim more,” said Wilson. “Because I felt like I just pulled up too much and settled for jump-shots this season.”
Wilson says his recruitment is yet to begin.
“Not yet,” he said, “not at all.”
But he’s eagerly awaiting.
“I would love to play college basketball,” said Wilson.
