Calvin Adams is a 2018 point guard that plays for Zachary High School. As a hard working player that consistently adds to his game, Adams is one to watch as someone who can score or distribute from the point guard position. He's a high IQ player whose off the court grades reflect it.
On the offensive end, Adams is a very good ball handler and shooter. He can break defenders down off the dribble and once he trusts his game, he'll become a real threat in the lane both as a scorer and facilitator.
He had this to say about his weaknesses, “Even though I pass the ball really well I believe my court vision needs to get better and my biggest weakness of all is my passiveness on offense.” As someone who understands his weakness and works on them, he'll easily reach his potential.
He can defend on the ball at a high level thanks to great straight line speed and the ability to turn on defense. Off the ball, he's consistently in the right place. Adams understands the important of communication both on and off the court. “I cannot go a possession without communicating with teammates on the court and also off the court to make strong relationships with each other.”
At Zachary, it is likely he is the starting point guard this season and like everyone, they have lofty goals. He'd like to make the All-District team but is completely team first. He told us, “Our motto is “Ubuntu” which means “I am because WE are”.”
Calvin Adams has a 3.929 GPA and has yet to take the ACT but that should be no issue for him. His skill level is blossoming and as his confidence grows, so will those taking notice.
