He is doing this to help his high school team at Castle, but also to potentially improve his collegiate stock.
“I’ve always played an off guard but at my height, I should probably become more of a floor general and handle the ball better and run the offense a little bit better,” Eades said. “I hope to do that this upcoming winter because on the Castle team we don’t have a true point guard yet, so I think I’m going to have to take over that role, so I hope to get better at it.”
Eades has already garnered collegiate interest thanks to his shooting abilities. The No. 59 prospect in the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 100 has heard from St. Joseph, St. Francis and Indiana Wesleyan recently, as well as a few other Div. II and NAIA schools.
It isn’t quite as much interest as he has hoped, but if he can showcase improved and strong point guard skills his stock could quickly rise.
“I work on ball handling all the time and always working on passing,” Eades said. “I’ve always felt passing is my best skill, but sometimes I try to throw over the top too much and have to work on bounce passes and looking the defender off who I’m going to throw to and just all the basic fundamentals.”
These abilities will be put to the test this year as he helps lead a Castle team that is inexperienced. But despite being a young team with no seniors, the goals are still high with Eades hoping for a sectional title and more.
“I’m not going to lie, I’m a little nervous about playing point guard, but I’m also excited to show that I can help lead a varsity basketball team and am ready for the opportunity…and I think we’re all ready to show you don’t need a senior on a varsity basketball team to have success,” Eades said.
