Here we look at a cross class reference point to see how they stack up against each other in our “Overall Prospect Rankings.” This is a look at prospects #31 – #35.
#31 PG Mike Smith (Fenwick _ 2016)
Smith is among the more underrated prospects in the state’s 2016 class. He is a quick guard that is strong with the ball working well in the pick and roll game. Smith can score by getting in the lane where he finishes layups/floaters as well as a nice stop and pop mid-range game. Very solid floor general that gets open teammates the ball.
#32 PG Jalen Clanton (Riverside Brookfield _ 2017)
Clanton is a tough and athletic point guard that has a good feel for the game. He knows when to get his teammates involved and when to look for his own offense. Very good leadership skills at a young age.
#33 PG Willie Herenton (Whitney Young _ 2017)
Herenton is a long and rangy defensive presence on the perimeter using his length to cause havoc. More of a combo guard he is best being slippery through traffic getting to the hoop and can knock down an occasional spot up three.
#34 SG Elijah Joiner (Curie _ 2017)
Joiner is a tough and athletic wing that was productive last season for Curie and should take an even bigger step forward this season after a strong summer with Team Rose on the circuit. Joiner has the potential to shoot up the rankings with another strong campaign.
#35 PF Raekwon Drake (Orr _ 2018)
Drake was a force right from the jump as a freshman at Orr. The 6’5” power forward is strong, physical, and athletic. He plays with a never ending motor and hits the glass with authority. The biggest question with him is how much will he grow. If he gets to 6’8” watch out!
