As the weather gets colder and the high school season gets closer, we will be doing various previews, predictions and breakdowns to prepare you as best as possible for the season. These segments will include everything from team previews to divisional breakdowns. While Virginia high school basketball is always crazy and unpredictable, it's always fun to predict ahead of time, then go back and compare at season's end.
To start off, we will be predicting the All-State teams for the VISAA private school divisions, starting with division one. These schools are typically the largest private schools in the state, and range from schools in the WCAC, TCIS, Prep League and other high level conferences. Here are our preseason picks for the All-State teams.
MVP: VJ King; Senior; Paul VI
The Louisville commit is nationally ranked int he top 50 by ESPN, and would sit atop the Vantage Hoops 2016 Rankings if Harry Giles hadn’t decided to transfer to Oak Hill this summer. A smooth 6’6 scoring wing, King has all of the tools to take over a game regardless of who is on the court, and has consistently done it against the best competition in not just the state, but the nation. His blend of size, athleticism and skill allows him to dominate in the VISAA, and should translate well to the highest collegiate levels, and possibly the pros.
