Cooler weather and rain is never a good mix, unless you're a basketball fan where the indoors provide a perfect oasis from the cold or the heat. The previews continue and the basketball season is under way in the way of practices and even scrimmages, it is time to get to each class' All-State teams.
As we continue our All-State previews we look at the 1A class where last year's MVP is now at LSU. That leaves the door wide open for someone to take over and with Madison Prep in 2A, the door is even wider. Does it go to the big man who stayed home or the young forward who is at a new school?
MVP: Mike Layssard; Senior F/C; Northwood-Lena
Big Mike Layssard is and absolute handful down low with an array of post moves. He can score at will against most of the state and his added perimeter game is progressing nicely. He'll likely average over one made three per game despite being an imposing physical threat down low. He handles the ball and passes it well enough to make those around him better. On defense he'll have to keep his cool and stay out of foul trouble to bring Northwood-Lena further than last year's run.
