With last season's 3A champion back with most of it's weapons, it'll be a fun season to see who rises to the top to challenge the champion. This class has some high level kids committed plus some sleepers.
University High is the defending Class 3A title that brings back a wealth of talent despite the transfer of Skylar Mays to Findlay Prep. Gatorade Player of the Year and LSU Commit Wayde Sims returns for his senior year with DJ White, Jalen Johnson, and Marshall Graves who will have big shoes to fill at PG. Young 2018 guards Spencer Mays and Eric Reed will need to step up as well.
In their district lies Port Allen and longtime starter Nigel Allen who will look to shoulder the load for the Pelicans.
St. Louis has two seniors in PJ Hardy and Kelvin Henry who have a ton of experience. Henry committed to McNeese earlier today. Westlake is another team to watch out of District 4-3A. Up north you have Carroll with big man Larry Owens in the class of 2017.
Peabody comes down from 4A where they ran into Jacob Evans in the playoffs. They return almost everyone and that includes 2017 LSU commit guard Cedric Russell and 2017 forward Kevin Norman. In 2016 they have Jacoby Ross who is a leader and scorer from the PG position and 2018 big man Dwight Simon. That means District 3-3A might not belong to Marksville anymore.
In district 8-3A you have Patterson led by 2016 PG Taylan Grogan and ED White led by 2017 PG Kevin Johnson and 2016 wing Thomas Clement. De La Salle in district 10-3A returns a host of 2017 talent that includes a big wing in David Williams.
Albany took control of district 7-3A and return four very key players including three seniors in Quincy Sykes, Justin Thompson, and Dylan Hoyt. Them plus 2017 Sean Sykes will be looking to remove the bad taste from how last season ended.
