There is talent across the class that includes high ranked national players as well as recruits who will find themselves in all other levels of college basketball. This year's front runner may be the runner-up from last season.
Lafayette Christian was already bringing back some high level talent in Greg Williams (2018), Kaleb Ledoux and Jacob Ledoux (2016) plus 2016 Mike Harden but have since added a 2017 nationally ranked forward in Galen Alexander. This team is deep and loaded in the backcourt that also has 2017 Caleb Starks. Look for them to make a deep run and possibly win it all.
One of the best players in 2016 Mike Layssard who is committed to Rhode Island is also in 1A with Northwood-Lena. At Grambling Lab you have Kaedrick Williams and Tylan Dean in the class of 2017 while Enrico Hayes is a 2016 who is currently playing football. Arcadia will always be in the mix in 1A and has a few seniors (Fielding and Fields) to go with 2017 Anthony Boston.
The deepest team in 1A might be Southern Lab who has a host of talent in each class that include Bladrick Veal in 2016, Dexter Dennis, Tyriq Matthews, and Azahrea Earnest in 2017 with a host of others in each class. Finding minutes, much less a starting spot, will be tough for anyone on the roster.
Other teams to watch include White Castle (2011 1A Champions), Hamilton Christian, and Ascension Episcopal. All have key players returning after a very good showing last season. As always, there could be sleeper teams but we're pretty certain your champion will come from this group.
