2016 wing Kyle Mallers, a Fort Wayne Carroll product, committed to Ball State on Thursday afternoon. He's a 6'7 scoring wing with tons of intangibles and and legit size on the perimeter. His frame will need strength and Kyle will have to add to his driving game but his a fairly balanced scorer who can get to the rim a pretty well and keep the floor spread with range beyond the three-point line.
Many in-state programs coveted Mallers and while his skill set is one that is tough to find, his makeup might be just as important. Kyle is a high-academic, hard working talent that understands the game really well. His ceiling might still be a little undefined as he continues growing but his ceiling is higher than most because of his makeup.
Mallers could find a role similar to that of standout sophomore Sean Sellers. Sellers found himself quickly in Muncie last year as a good all-around scoring wing who shot 43% from three and 44% from inside the arc. Kyle should be similar but might have a better handle right now that Sean did going in.
Outside of Ball State, Kyle also had offers from Evansville, Indiana State, Ole' Miss, Toledo, and Valparaiso.
