Fury Zurn finished its grassroots campaign ranked second in the state, amassing a 42-9 overall record and drawing large crowds of college coaches along the way. One key part of the squad was Owen Chose, Eden Prairie’s energetic and quick guard.
We knew Owen was a good player after watching Eden Prairie last winter, but he played the role of an underclassman off the bench, complementing big pieces like Grantham Gillard and Josh Lanasa. He got plenty of time for Fury this spring and summer, showing off sharp decision-making, a nasty pull-up jumper in traffic and very quick moves.
“I have been hearing from multiple schools,” Chose said. “UNC-Greensboro, Wofford, Central Michigan are all coming up to visit this September and will watch me this high school season. Drake has also said they will be watching me this season and will be coming to multiple games. I have also heard from Cal State-Bakersfield.”
Chose doesn’t play a fall sport, although he is giving heavy consideration to running track this spring as a sprinter; the EP coaches have already reached out to him about trying out. Until then, however, it’s all basketball in Owen’s free time.
“This fall I am working on my athleticism and hitting the weights,” Chose said. “As for basketball skills, I train and get shots up before school every day during the week. I’m working on my ball-handling, and I watch video to improve my IQ for the game. As of right now, EP is not in a fall league, but we are looking for one to play in.”
