Blake. Tough year last year, they will take good steps this winter.
Delano. Kreklow is now healthy, they could win their league.
DeLaSalle. The Drive for Five starts now. Definitely could happen.
Mpls Patrick Henry. Played together all spring/summer, good size
Mound Westonka. Wade Hokenson is new coach, was a D1 assistant
Orono. Lots of graduation losses, but Big Sam is still inside.
Waconia. Outstanding backcourt is back and will be deeper for Cats.
Ten Thoughts
- DeLaSalle's Drive for Five. They have two kids with D1 offers in Goanar Mar and Gabe Kalscheur plus a D2 offered senior leader in Samm Jones. Lots of young talent. Have the top players in class AAA
- Dave Thorson coached at Minnesota and has several titles, Barry Wohler played at Minnesota, coached at Hamline, has won a title. Excellent coaches.
- But wait, there is more. AAU names also leading high school squads, Jeremy Miller has the Patriots in a good spot this year while Sean Kruger switches his time from leading Select to leading the Blake Bears.
- But wait, there is more. How about partial Wolves owner and state title coach John Moore? There is Wade Hokenson who has been coaching at Western Illinois. Don't forget Patrick Hayes and Terry Techam who have been top Wright County coaches for a long time. Lots of leaders.
- What are they leading? Waconia had maybe the toughest schedule out there last year, especially for AAA. They went all the way to winning third place a year ago after going .500. Shows what that program can do, and it shows that in Class AAA runs can be made.
- The Wright County schools had to of thought a prank was pulled when they saw DeLaSalle was in their section. Nope. Just a move to make a section that could include five or six top ten teams all in the same group. Yikes.
- Remember how we said that Class AAAA was more balanced with the section changes? Not true in Class AAA. Bad balance. BUT, way more outstate teams that are usually grouped together so a 64 team thing would be tough.
- Waconia. So many quality guards and now they are adding good young guards. Very good program led by Patrick Hayes. I think the Henry Patriots are on their way with “DEB” as their scoring, Julian Jackson scoring up front, and adding 6-foot-7 super long Leon Wood to the team after an Illinois transfer.
- Delano. I think they could be a top five team if things go right. Good young guards, a D2 guy in Kreklow, there are tough kids, and oh yeah, motivated coaches after the crap that they had to go through last off-season.
- Talk nice coaches, talk nice.
