“Last year we had two of the top big men in the state in Deng Geu (NDSU) and Cole Benson. We were able to feed them every time down the court and get something good. This year we will shoot it more from three and have to be better in transition as we will basically start four guards.”
Coach Nelson on Sam Siganos
“Sam is a very smart, heady, and consistent basketball player. He has started the last 60 games for the Warriors at PG, leading them to 2 state tournaments. Sam is very unselfish with his game as he has a great knack for getting others the ball and is a very good playmaker. This year we will need him to be more selfish and look for his own opportunities to score.”
Sam is listed at 6-foot-1 and averaged 7.6 points, four rebounds, and four assists last year.
Coach Nelson on Carter Keller
“Carter makes our team hard to guard cause he can spread the floor so well. He has great range and shoots the ball fearlessly. His energy and enthusiasm for the game are his best attributes to our team. Carter is recovering from a 2 month injury of a broken ankle suffered during Football season, but should be healthy come the first practice.”
Carter is a 6-foot-3 guard who averaged 8.3 points and 3.5 rebounds as a junior.
Coach Nelson on Ty Smith
“Ty is a solid and steady leader. Last year he played anywhere from point guard to power forward, and guarded the other teams athletic bigs at times. Ty will need to be more aggressive on the offensive end for us this season. He brings a degree of leadership and work ethic that is unmatched.”
Ty is a 6-foot-4 small forward that averaged 6.4 points and four rebounds as a junior.
Coach Nelson on Matt Farniok
“Matt is a 300 pound Division 1 football player who is also quite nimble on his feet. He runs the floor well and has great hands and feet. Matt will need to touch the ball early and often for us to be successful. His work ethic is second to none and the motor he plays with for a guy his size is phenomenal.”
Matt is a 6-foot-6 center that averaged four points and 4.5 rebounds last season as a junior.
Coach Nelson on Jack Talley
“Jack had a great summer and developed greatly as a player. He is extremely gifted offensively, but we will need him to improve his defensive intensity in order to be a truly great player. Jack has a chance to be a difference maker for us by giving us another tough offensive threat.”
Jack is a 6-foot-4 small forward who averaged 12.5 points per game on JV a year ago.
Coach Nelson on Issac Goeman
“Isaac is a strong and athletic big man. He has worked very hard to refine his offensive post game, and although is still very raw has made significant gains. He rebounds, defends, and runs really well.”
Isaac is a 6-foot-5 power forward/center that player junior varsity last year as a sophomore.
Coach Nelson on Logan Uttecht
“Logan is an athletic wing who does a little bit of everything well. He worked hard in the weight room to get his body ready for Varsity AA competition and should be able to help us at all 3 guard spots when needed. With time, he has a chance to be a very special player.”
Logan averaged eight points a game as a freshman on JV last season. He is a 6-foot-3 guard.
Coach Nelson on Speeks and Skogstad
“Robert Speeks, a 5'6″ senior, and Jacob Skogstad a 5'10″ senior are also expected to provided quality guard depth for the Warriors. Rob is a Point Guard who sees the floor and passes it really well, and Skogstad is a deep threat from three and a 90 percent free throw shooter.”
Coach Nelson on season goal
“We have the talent to make it back to another state tournament. We have 4 guys returning that have already played in two state tournaments.”
Coach Nelson on what he enjoys about coaching
“We have great kids. They are my enjoyment. I love watching them improve and because they are so coachable they are a joy to be around.”
Coach Nelson on college plans of two
“Sam Siganos has signed to play at Concordia St. Paul. Matt Farniok, Left Tackle, has DI Football offers from every conference in the nation.”
Matt's offer list includes Arizona, Cal, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Wisconsin.
