The depth at the point guard position is what makes this such a special position.  Here we breakdown some prospects to look at for D2, D3, and NAIA programs.

D2 Targets

There are quite a few potential options at the D2 level and several of these are getting looks by low-major programs too.

Ilijah Donnelly (Bloomington)

Slick handling 6’3” guard that looks to slice through the defense and get to the hoop.  Upside with size and athleticism.

Ethan Meeker (Galesburg)

Greatly improved as a lead guard.  The 6’2” point guard makes sound decisions with the ball and can shoot it from perimeter.

Bryce Barnes (Bogan)

Tough and pesky on ball defender that causes turnovers.  Can hit open three and is solid ball handler.

Xavier Bishop (Springfield Lanphier)

Playmaking 5’8” point guard that is more of a scoring threat.  Showed flashes coming off the bench as a good change of pace guard on the travel team circuit.

Jason Jones (Rock Island)

Jones is a pass first point guard that gets others involved and did a good job running Quad City Elite for three years.  Slippery in traffic and can get in the lane.

Josh Robinson (Normal West)

Big and strong point guard at 6’2” that has quick acceleration for his size and is crafty with the ball.  Scores in the paint where he can also drive and kick.

Dankio Jackson (Riverside Brookfield)

Jackson is a wiry left handed guard that does a good job of running the show and getting the ball to his scorers.  The kid just wins!

D’Aaron Owens (Centralia)

Small point guard at 5’7” that has off the charts basketball IQ and leadership skills.  Pass first guard that can hit runner in lane and has improved three point shot.

Canaan Coffey (Batavia)

Smooth combo guard at 6’2” that shoots it well with a sweet looking perimeter stroke.  Makes solid decisions as a primary ball handler.

Darius Branch (Leo)

Quick and shifty 5’7” guard that pushes the tempo and gets everyone involved.  Spark plug that gets teammates going.

Braden Fitzjerrells (Mt. Vernon)

Fitzjerrells is tough as nails and an elite competitor.  Best when the ball is in his hands and he can make plays as both a scorer and distributor.

James McQuillan (St. Charles East)

Big 6’4” prospect that is learning the point guard position.  Shows a lot of raw tools and feel for the game.

D3/NAIA Targets

These are a few of our favorite D3 and NAIA 2016 point guard targets.

Devon Sams (Bolingbrook)

Tough and physical 6’0” guard that competes on the defensive end.  Offensively he hits open jumpers from mid-range and makes plays for himself and others in the lane.

Lee Higgins (Plainfield East)

Rangy and athletic prospect that is lockdown on ball defender.  Slick ball handler that scores at the rim with acrobatic layups.

CJ Neville (Rock Island)

Scoring point guard that is constantly in attack mode.  Put up big numbers with Quad City Elite Black on the circuit.

Joseph Sieger (Neuqua Valley)

Smooth shooting combo guard that has a good feel for the game.

Lou Griffith (Washington)

Ultimate competitor that flies all over the floor making plays.  Solid passer that is knock down perimeter shooter at 5’7”.
