Shaquille Harris has won our Player of July Poll, gaining 60 percent of the votes over the week.
At 6-foot-6, Harris blossomed this summer for the Miami Suns, gaining recognition from Division 2 and low Division 1 programs. We believe that with some seasoning, Harris could fit well into the Southern Conference or the Atlantic 10, and be an effective player.
A great athlete with an improving skill set, Harris is a player that will be a difference maker in South Florida, alongside of other under the radar players like Jules Jasmin and Austin Evans, two other players who play for a smaller 16U team, the South Florida Fastbreak.
Harris helped to lead the Miami Suns to a 5-2 record in nationals, which included a fifth place finish in Louisville. He even started off the summer averaging close to 22 points per game for the Suns. We expect to see them back in full force next year.
Harris will be a centerpiece this year for Hialeah American who went 19-6 last year, with the sophomore averaging 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Nominated by the Suns program, Harris beat out Zach Scott, who made a great push for about 4 days, but Harris pulled away in the last couple days.
Scott, who stepped in at the point guard spot led the Florida Vipers to the UAA 16U Title in Atlanta, despite being a year younger than everyone else on the team, and deserves some recognition as well.
Harris also beat out Troy Baxter, Jalen Marbra, Trent Frazier, Jose Placer, Darius Allen, Blake Hinson, Nassir Little and Wyatt Wilkes.
