“This year I really improved on catching it in the post and finishing,” said Slater. “I also I got a lot of practice on the outside when Steffon (Mitchell) had a mismatch”
Slater and Mitchell worked excellent together as a forward/forward and forward/center combination in all ways needed. Slater joined Mitchell in being a threat facing the basket and with back to the basket. Playing with the Fury was a nice way for Slater to end his Grassroots career.
“I loved my AAU experience, the Fury is a top notch program, all class. I cannot say enough good things about Ben Wilde and Ben Davis.
Next for Slater is a high expectation season at Wayzata. Goals of conference, section, and even state title are in their heads as they enter the season a top 5-6 team in state.
“I'm pumped for my senior year, couldn't ask for a better group of guys,” Austin said. “We were a respected team last year with a 20 win season but this year we are looking at much bigger things and in order to achieve our goals we need to keep playing as a team.”
Before that first November practice, Austin has to figure how he wants to handle his college decision. Visits are being scheduled at the moment.
“I’m hearing from Sioux Falls, Harding, Minot State, Lindenwood, and Upper Iowa,” said Slater. “I am going to visit, Sioux Falls and Lindenwood so far.”
