Coach’s Take: Colorado Chaos D1 Ambassadors 2017
Colorado Chaos D1 Ambassadors 17 coach Tommy Gilbert, in his first year with the Chaos program, was impressed by the growth of a team that finished July with a consolation game win at Las Vegas Fab 48.
Gilbert, who has coached high school and club basketball for more than a decade, was nice enough to take the time last week to break down the games of each player on his roster. Here’s his take:
Andrew Shirley, 6-foot-5 2017 wing, William Smith: “Can be a knockdown shooter, very streaky. Good size for a wing. Will compete on the boards; very coachable, will give best effort to follow directives. High-character kid.”
Rider Patton, 6-foot 2017 guard, Valor Christian: “Has the physical ability to be a good player. Good mid-range shooter. Range out to 3-point line.”
Tyson Gilbert, 5-foot-10 2018 point guard, Highlands Ranch: “Has a really good feel for the game. Shoots the jumper well. Plays with pace. Can score from the point guard position. Solid on-ball defender. Excelled playing up an age group.”
Jayme Rich, 6-foot 2017 combo guard, Eaglecrest: “Above-average ball handler. Creates for himself and others. Not afraid of the moment. Good court vision. Solid on-ball defender.”
Conner Martin, 6-foot 2017 wing, Strasburg: “Fierce competitor. Great anticipation, gets his hands on a lot of loose balls and ‘sneaky’ offensive rebounds. Hits the open 3-pointer with consistency. Solid defender, often guarding opponent’s best scorer.”
Manny N’Tula, 6-foot-4 2017 wing, Kelly Walsh (Wyo.): “Freakish athletic ability. Has the ability to get to the rim at will. Can be a volume scorer. Very solid defender and rebounder. Has range to 3-point line. Very high upside.”
Quinten Gutierrez, 6-foot 2017 guard, Pine Creek: “Big-time scorer and outstanding shooter with range out to the NBA 3-point line. Explosive offensive threat. Just flat out gets buckets.”
McKale Williams, 6-foot 2017 guard, Highlands Ranch: “High-intensity competitor. Very high motor. Left-handed player who attacks the rim ferociously. Very physical on-ball defender. High-academic athlete.”
Alex Mickus, 6-foot-7 2017 post, Highlands Ranch: “Made huge strides in confidence toward the end of the season. Competes on the boards. Good elbow/short corner shooter. Solid post footwork. High-academic athlete.”
Jared Burbidge, 6-foot-5 2017 post, Colorado Springs Christian: “Nice touch around the rim with either hand. Uses body well to rebound and score. Good interior defender. High-character kid.”
