Camp Day 1 Notes
Day 1 concluded with a fantastic turnout of underclassmen who were willing to work from the moment they walked in the door. Stretches and drills took place first where we saw coaches teach players numerous abilities from splitting the pick and roll to the proper way to set up a shot after catching the ball off of a screen. After a break we moved to a dunk contest which saw underclassmen show off their budding athleticism. A tweet with the winner with one of his top dunks is featured below. Other various dunks from the contest can be found on the @PrepHoopsLA Twitter feed as well.
After the contest, which was won by 2019 Larenz Williams, we moved to games where each camper had ample time on the court throughout the games. There were moments where teammates and even brothers got an opportunity to square off against each other. Lastly, there was the All-Star Game where players were chosen by different members of the staff working from the coaches who coached games to our staff.
Notes and Winners
– As stated above, Larenz Williams took home the dunk contest win. Finishing 2nd was 2018 G Isaiah Lewis. You can find a dunk from Lorenz below.
– Isaiah Lewis was also named the All-Star Game MVP after dropping 19 points in a big win for his team.
– PCA Guard Bill Leahy IV took home our camper award selected by the coaches as the camper who worked the hardest throughout drills and games.
– A big 25 point scoring outburst from Garland Robinson in one game had coaches taking note. He’s yet another player from Riverside who proved he can play.
– There were numerous moments throughout camp but the ones between Lewis and Williams (dunk contest finalists) were memorable. From a down to the wire game to Larenz announcing Isaiah as the MVP after the game, its was a fun show.
