F Wayde Sims – Louisiana Elite
F Robert Williams – Houston Hoops
F Brison Gresham – Elfrid Payton Elite
G Lamar Peters – New Orleans Elite
G Javonte Smart – Elfrid Payton Elite (2018)
Mississippi State commit Lamar Peters from Landry-Walker has really shown off his ability to play the point this summer. That was enough to give this high volume scorer the nod as our 17u summer MVP. LSU commit Wayde Sims had one of the best July's of anyone in the state and really carried Louisiana Elite to a great finish. EP Elite teammates Brison Gresham and Javonte Smart took them to the Peach Jam. Gresham is an elite defensive big with an expanding offensive game and Smart is one of the best young players in the country. Texas A&M commit Robert Williams has a nice inside-out game that excels on both ends of the court.
17u Second Team All-Grassroots
F Cameron Lard – New Orleans Elite
F Roydell Brown – Jet Life Athletics
G/F Brandon Rachal – Elfrid Payton Elite (2017)
G DeJon Jarreau – Elfrid Payton Elite
G Malik Crowfield – New Orleans Elite
DeJon Jarreau is one of the more exciting guards to watch when healthy and there is no doubt he'd be on the 1st team had he not battled a nagging injury throughout the first half of the summer. His summer teammate Brandon Rachal was a do it all wing for EP Elite this summer. One of the leading scorers, rebounders, and the one who was tasked with defending the best player from the other team. Cameron Lard is an elite defender and rebounder for NO Elite who showed off some offense as well while Malik Crowfield is a winner and shooter who always shows up in big games. Super athlete Roydell Brown really flourished when he played with Jet Life and is always a highlight waiting to happen.
17u Third Team All-Grassroots
F Jalen Johnson – Arkansas Wings / New Orleans Elite
F Kaedrick Williams – Texas Select – Manning (2017)
G Devante Jones – Elfrid Payton Elite
G Jared Butler – Louisiana Elite (2018)
G Noah Griffin – TFH Hawks
When it comes to players who really outplayed what people thought of them before the summer, this group is full of it. Noah Griffin led the Hawks to a nice summer with his outstanding shooting and developing athleticism. Jones for EP Elite was a very consistent performer who averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while providing great defense in the EYBL. Kae Williams from Grambling Lab led Texas Select throughout the summer as he developed on the wing. Jalen Johnson is known as a shooter around the state but for the Wings he really flourished in doing the little things while the addition of Jared Butler to Louisiana Elite 17u really helped them become a winning team late.
17u Fourth Team All-Grassroots
F Mike Layssard – Lone Star Elite / DFW Urban
F Garrick Green – Louisiana Dynasty / Elfrid Payton Elite
G/F Troy Green – Louisiana Dynasty
G Tolliver Freeman – Red Storm
G Herb McGee – Louisiana Elite
Troy Green is a big, strong wing who is tough to handle. He's athletic enough to go around bigger players and way too physical for smaller guards. His play helped the Dynasty while Garrick Green took care of work around the rim early for them. Later in the year when he played with EP Elite, he really showed off his all around game. Herb McGee is one of the better shooters in the state as well and despite struggling early in the year, proved he is a winner later with big play. Tolliver Freeman chose to stay with Red Storm this summer and his play was a big reason they still performed well in big tournaments. Big man Mike Layssard plied his skills in Texas for the summer and his increased conditioning really helped him show off his game.
