Seven Versatile Players In The Class Of 2020
Having versatile basketball players on a roster can be a distinct advantage. These players can create matchup difficulties and can allow a coach to have flexibility. Being a versatile basketball player is a rare skill that should be appreciated for its value.
Here is a look at seven versatile players in Michigan’s class of 2020:
James Babers (F, Saginaw HS, The Program)
At 6’7”, he’s a big man with guard skills. Babers can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim from the perimeter. He fills a stat sheet and is a constant threat for a double-double.
Kabir Bergen (F, Skyline, AABA)
Bergen can play facing the rim where he displays a nice mid range game and can put the ball on the floor. He can also play with his back to the basket where he utilized some solid post moves to get points in the paint. Bergen is also very active on the glass.
Connor Bush Connor Bush 6'6" | PF Belleville | 2020 State MI (SF, Belleville, REACH Legends)
Bush is quite simply one of the gutsiest players in Michigan. He’s listed as a small forward, but he’s able and willing to match up with any player on the floor. Bush battles on the boards and can get points in the paint, especially off put backs. He’s just as dangerous with the ball in his hands on the perimeter.
Reece Hazelton Reece Hazelton 6'7" | SF Glen Lake | 2020 State MI (G/F, Glen Lake, Northern Exposure)
Hazelton is a matchup nightmare. He can shoot from 25 feet with consistency and has a solid mid range game. Hazelton is equally as dangerous in the paint. He uses excellent footwork to create good looks at the rim. Hazelton has the ability to guard multiple positions as well.
Carlos Johnson Carlos Johnson 6'6" | SF Benton Harbor | 2020 State #83 Nation MI (F, Benton Harbor, The Family)
Johnson has always been a beast. He can quite simply outmuscle any opponent he matches up with. The thing is, Johnson has greatly improved his perimeter game over the previous year. He’s a well-rounded machine who is a nightmare to play against. Johnson is one of the most skilled and talented prep players in the country.
Zach Maynard Zach Maynard 6'4" | SG Brother Rice | 2020 State MI (SG, Brother Rice, Flint’s Finest)
Maynard is a fearless competitor. While he’s naturally a guard, he’ll step up and defend anywhere from the 1-4. Maynard is a shooter at heart and has the ability to get hot from outside. Don’t be surprised, however, if you see him putting a body on a big man and battling for rebounds.
Zach Yorke Zach Yorke 6'1" | SF Millington | 2020 State MI (G/F, Millington, NO Wolfpack)
Yorke is the definition of a team first player. He will play anywhere from point guard to power forward, as long as it’s what’s best for the team. Yorke uses his strength over height to compete in the paint. He has post moves, but can also step behind the three point line and shoot with consistency.
