Prospect Spotlight: Mike Ketner (2019)
In-state small school programs likely made a note on Minster’s 5’11” point guard Mike Ketner (2019) after his 21-point performance at Flyin’ to the Hoop. We certainly did.
Even though colleges are yet to reach out to Ketner directly, he possesses a lot of the skills you’re looking for at the Division III level. The kid has a 3.78 GPA (22 ACT score), can shoot it from the outside, shoot the floater over forwards, and has the point guard gene.
“I try to just make plays for my teammates and get them in the right positions for them to be successful,” Ketner said.”
For the most part it’s working out for the team. Minster is 8-2 going into their Friday night MAC showdown against Versailles. In order to pull off the conference victory, they’ll need to play their best ball, which hasn’t been the case every time they’ve stepped onto the court.
“What I think we really need to work on is our defense, really. Because that will help us if we’re able to get stops. And offensively, we need to attack the basket more,” Ketner said.
Keep in mind that Minster started their season late because of the football team’s State Championship run, which Ketner saw firsthand as the backup quarterback. According to him, there have been signs of improvement throughout the season.
Ketner also plays baseball for Minster, making him a three-sport athlete. However, his goal is to make it to the college level as a basketball player. With that being said, finding more time to play during the upcoming grassroots season is the hope for Ketner.
While the recruitment process is yet to start, Ketner does have an inkling of what he’ll look for in a university, saying, “Just a good environment,” Ketner said.
Although he’s crafty around the rim today, Ketner is hoping to develop that part of his game even more going forward.
