Recruiting Report: Jaidon Lipscomb (2019)
Jaidon Lipscomb (2019) is an underrated prospect on a high profile team. The 6’1” combo guard may not receive huge minutes for Pickerington Central, but he’ll look to take advantage of any opportunity he’s given as a junior.
“I have high expectations for myself. I believe I can come in and make stuff happen with shooting the ball and being able to defend well. Just helping my guys win every day,” Lipscomb said.
Lipscomb’s confidence doesn’t stop at an individual basis.
“Every year, Tiger basketball always has high expectations for ourselves. We always believe we can make it to states and possibly win the title,” Lipscomb said.
When Lipscomb has the opportunity to contribute, it will likely come via the jump shot.
“When I have Jeremiah [Francis] on the court, I just make sure I get to my spots so I’m able to get the ball and knock down shots for our team,” Lipscomb said.
Past the high school level, Lipscomb expects to have more ball-handling responsibilities than what he sees now at Pick Central.
“I consider myself as a combo guard. And when I make it to the next level, that’s the position I’m going to have to play,” Lipscomb said.
In order to develop as a ball-handler, Lipscomb is looking to pack on physical strength so that he doesn’t get pushed off his spots.
At that next level, there are a few colleges that have emerged over the past summer who are interested in Lipscomb.
“My highest look right now is Lipscomb University. As well, I took a visit to Alderson Broaddus University a few weeks ago. And I’m looking to take a visit to Malone in a few days,” Lipscomb said.
The 4.0 GPA student-athlete seemed to enjoy his first college visit, saying, “Felt like I was at home. They have great coaching staff, great players, the campus was nice.”
“Outside of basketball, I’m really looking for my major. I’m going to go into business finance, as well as possibly sports medicine. So when I look at a school, I look at it outside of basketball. Does it feel like I’m at home? … Am I going to perform there? And what the school is like in a general sense,” Lipscomb said.
Lipscomb scored an 18 on his first ACT attempt. He’s scheduled to re-take the test in December.
Pickerington Central will open their season at the All Ohio High School Showcase against Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary. The game will tip off at 9 p.m. at Whitehall Yearling on Saturday Dec. 2.
