Recruiting Report: Jejuan Weatherspoon (2018)
The Northland Vikings have won the Columbus City League 10 of the last 12 seasons. Last year was not one of those championship runs, as Northland lost to Columbus South in the City League Championship. But the expectations remain high for 6’3” guard Jejuan Weatherspoon (2018).
“We plan on winning the City for sure, and making a big impact in the tournament,” Weatherspoon told Prep Hoops.
In order for Northland to climb back to the top of the hill this season, Weatherspoon understands that he has to come up big.
“I got a big role. I got to step up even more since last year. Got to be a leader … Once [teammates] start to see that I’m picking it up, they will start to adapt with me,” Weatherspoon said.
With the graduation of a couple key contributors, namely Quentin Jones and Brandon Waugh, the Vikings will have a much different starting lineup this season.
“It’s going to be me, N’Keeley Elmore, Will Mfum, [Dishon] Daniels, and we don’t know who the fifth will be,” Weatherspoon said.
Weatherspoon also hopes to have recruiting options open up during his senior season.
“I got to go out with a bang,” Weatherspoon said.
Weatherspoon currently holds an offer from Wheeling Jesuit.
When asked if Weatherspoon would consider going to Wheeling Jesuit, he told us, “Not right now. I’m still weighing out my options.”
What is Weatherspoon looking for in a program?
“I’m looking for, pretty much, best fit. And a school that can prepare me for the next level,” Weatherspoon told us.
Along with Wheeling Jesuit, Ohio Dominican has been showing interest in Weatherspoon lately.
“ODU has [shown interest]. Nobody else right now. It hasn’t been looking so good so far. But I’m going to keep you posted and keep prayers and positive thoughts,” Weatherspoon said.
Weatherspoon told us that he hopes to set up a visit to the nearby Ohio Dominican campus soon.
At the moment, Weatherspoon carries a 3.3 GPA. He also told us that his ACT is either a 16 or 17; he plans on taking the test again.
