Recruiting Report: Payton Jutte (2019)
Payton Jutte (2019) made an impression on us late in the summer with his 6’4” size, smooth pull-up game, and shooting ability at the two-guard spot.
Turns out, several Division II programs have also taken notice of the guard from Fort Recovery.
“I’ve been talking to Findlay the most often. And I’ve heard from Lake Erie, Hillsdale, and Ohio Dominican,” Jutte told us.
With Jutte being a junior, he’s still early in the recruiting process. He hasn’t taken visits yet and is still building relationships with schools.
As mentioned, Jutte separates himself as a shooter. But, he’s hoping to add some versatility to his game going forward.
“As a wing, I feel like I need to establish more of a slashing game. I’ve been working on handling the ball more and that’s what’s going to help me out the most this year … I want to be able to help my team out, being able to guard more positions. Being able to guard the best player on the other team,” Jutte said.
Jutte should be an asset for Fort Recovery’s new head coach, Mike Bashore. Leading into the season, Jutte is feeling pretty confident about the new leadership.
“He’s cool. He really knows what’s going on. He’s smart too … I think he really wants to get out and run and that really fits me. I like to run, so hopefully it’ll go well,” Jutte said.
With Bashore at the helm and Jutte continuing to develop, the 3.4 GPA student-athlete has high hopes for his junior season.
“Goals this year, hopefully we’re competitive in the MAC this year again. Last year, it was kind of a disappointment in the way we played. But this year we should be better. Other than MAC, I hope we make a deep playoff run. Last year we came up a little short.”
“Then individual goals, I hope to be competitive in MAC Player of the Year. Obviously Justin Ahrens is that guy, but hopefully I’m up there in that talk,” Jutte said.
