Recruiting Report: Elijah Bishop (2018)
As a 6’6” (and still growing) wing, Elijah Bishop (2018), from Beechcroft High School in Columbus, can defend multiple positions, attack the rim, and hit a jumper. Yet, Bishop still an under-the-radar prospect, and he knows it.
“I’m under the radar and I kind of like that,” Bishop said.
Entering his senior season, Bishop has a chip on his shoulders. He will welcome the challenge of guarding anyone and is working out every day to make sure he’s ready for it.
Bishop’s edge could be an important factor for Beechcroft, who has high expectations in the 2017-2018 Columbus City League.
“For the team, we want to win City’s. I feel like we can win City’s and everything if we play as a team … We got most of our returners coming back this year and I feel like we can get it done this year,” Bishop said.
Bishop isn’t only bringing a mental edge, however. The kid is talented and confident.
“On defense, I’m not scared to guard nobody … I can drive, I don’t feel like nobody can guard me one-on-one. I’m always going to get that extra step. I always have that confidence. I feel like I can score. But I’m not a selfish player, so I pass and get everyone else involved,” Bishop said.
Although Bishop didn’t speak on it during the interview, he’s also a solid rebounder.
It should also be noted that Bishop will have more bounce than what scouts saw this grassroots season, as he was dealing with growing pains in his knees.
Recruitment
At this time, Bishop is yet to receive a scholarship offer. But, he has interest from NAIA, JUCO, and Division III programs.
“I’ve been talking to Central State, Muskingum, and Cincinnati State, they are all the places that I’ve had conversations with.”
“I could a good relationship with all of the coaches that talk to me … I have a visit coming up to Muskingum and Central State,” Bishop said.
He also mentioned that Mount St. Joseph has shown interest.
Bishop told PHO that he’s just looking for a campus environment where he can feel at home.
Currently, the senior carries a 2.3 GPA and a 19 score on the ACT.
