Recruiting Report: Javin Etzler (2019)
Javin Etzler – 6’7” | W/G | Indy Heat 16U EYBL | Crestview (OH)
Recruiting Report: Following Best of the Midwest
Javin Etzler has recently broken into the recruiting scene with a few offers but it’s only the beginning. Etzler’s style of play takes advantage of his length and his creative abilities on the offensive end. Javin plays with Spiece Indy Heat 16U on the EYBL Circuit and plays his high school ball at Crestview in Ohio.
He was impressive earlier on in the summer as well [https://prephoops.com/2017/05/prospect-spotlight-javin-etzler-2019/] but nothing like his play as of recent. He has completely taken his game to another level.
Javin had the opportunity of a lifetime when he got the chance to represent the Indy Heat 16U team at the Nike Peach Jam in August, GA. This is one of the biggest tournaments of the summer with some of the best talent in the nation on display. Not to mention, a gym full of the top college coaches and programs from across the nation.
Not only did Etzler help lead this team to Peach Jam, he was a starter. He knew that he had a great opportunity ahead of him and he was not about to let it pass him up.
“I told myself that what I needed to do was rebound like crazy, hit my open shots, and just play within myself. So that’s what I did and we were very successful until we took a tough loss (in the final four).”
“I was really proud of the way we played together and the way we competed at a high level. Our style of play was noticed and people were very impressed.”
Etzler has always been known for his ability to influence the game in the scoring column. The long guard is an elite shooter from the outside, off the dribble, and has an expanding game with his back to the basket. He is a tough player to matchup with because he is capable of taking advantage of mismatches.
His game with his back to the basket is creative, smooth, and fun to watch. He can completely dominate a team with his scoring ability.
One thing that he has improved upon is rebounding on both backboards consistently. With his length at the guard position, he is one of the best rebounders because of his IQ and hands. He understands how shots come off the rim and positions himself to be in the mix for rebounds. He has big hands and a good feel for the ball.
Javin’s break-out performance came in the Final Four game of the Nike Peach Jam against an extremely talented Athletes of Tomorrow (AoT) team that finished as the runner-up.
“After our last game, I picked up interest from Wisconsin, Xavier, Texas, and Rhode Island.”
Etzler already holds offers from Duquesne University [https://twitter.com/JavinEtzler32/status/876983534623350784] and Miami (OH) University [https://twitter.com/JavinEtzler32/status/880879644123254784]. Both offers have come within the past month and a half.
After his performances at the Peach Jam and other tournaments throughout the summer, Javin has found himself all over recruiting boards. Wisconsin was the first team to reach out directly following his play in Augusta and were adamant about getting him on campus for a visit.
Northern Kentucky University and Loyola University have also been contacting him frequently. He is interested in taking visits to all of the schools that he can and keeping his options open.
As he gears up for another strong season with Crestview, he will become a must-see player for many programs. A Class of 2019 prospect who is starting to see all the hard work begin to pay off.
