Recruiting Report: Deshon Parker (2018)
For the best AAU team in Ohio, All Ohio Red EYBL 17U, even Division I prospects have to play niche roles. Following Red’s Peach Jam appearance last weekend, we caught up with 6’1” point guard Deshon Parker (2018), to ask about his role on the team and more.
“I played alright, could’ve done a little better. Didn’t get as much playing time as I wanted but I can’t complain about it, got to control the things I can. But, yeah, [Peach Jam] went good,” Parker said. “Peach Jam is something crazy. I wish any AAU kid, any kid that plays AAU, wish they could go through that experience. I went through it twice. It’s the best tournament in the nation by far.”
Regardless of minutes, Parker has recently received offers from James Madison and Miami (OH).
“I actually went to a little elite camp in James Madison and that’s when they offered me, when I went to the elite camp. Then, yeah, all the coaches — the head coach and all the assistants — they went down to watch me [at Peach Jam],” Parker said.
He continued by elaborating about a similar situation with Miami (OH).
“Miami, they came to a few games down there and they ended up pulling the trigger as well,” Parker said.
As it stands today, those are the two offers that Parker has on the table, as Vermont is no longer offering the Dayton Wayne prospect a scholarship.
“Another point guard took the Vermont offer, so that’s no longer in the picture,” Parker told Prep Hoops.
In a previous Recruiting Report, Parker mentioned Akron, Radford, and Cleveland State as teams interested. This time around, we asked Parker if he has maintained those relationships.
“Yeah, Cleveland State. And then Akron, their coaching staff went to Duquesne, so they’ve been recruiting me at Duquesne. So, that coaching staff has still been recruiting me. Radford, I haven’t heard from them much recently,” Parker responded.
Meanwhile, other D-I programs have taken interest in this fundamentally sound prospect.
“I’ve been to Wright State for an elite camp and I’ve been to Toledo,” Parker told Prep Hoops, later confirming that he still is in contact with both programs.
Although he’s in no rush to make a decision, Parker knows what that decision will be based on.
“A great environment. First off, a great education, you know, that’s what I’m going to a school for is the education. A great coaching staff who like the player I am who are going to make me work for everything,” Parker said.
The 3.5 GPA student-athlete is one of the top point guard prospects in the entire state. Expect him and Darius Quisenberry to be a nearly unstoppable force in the backcourt for Dayton Wayne during their senior year coming up.
Parker and All Ohio Red EYBL will play in the Nike Summer Championship in Columbus this weekend.
