Recruiting Report: John Hugley (2020)
Known around area gyms in Northeast Ohio as Big John, Brush High post John Hugley is drawing interest from some of the biggest programs in the country.
The 6’-7” sophomore, who weighs in at 255 pounds, continues to make strides toward improving his game.
He’s spent this summer in the gym working on his left hand and other parts of his game and college coaches are taking notice and making offers, according to his high school coach.
During a recent Earl Boykins Summer League game he showed an ability to eat up space on the interior along with a nice mid-range jump shot.
He’s coached by former Miami of Ohio star Chet Mason, who said Hugley has been grinding away in the gym this summer working on his game.
“He’s got a good touch and he’s got a strong body, which he doesn’t even realize yet. He’s got a long ways to go, a long way, but his potential is through the roof with his size, weight, and his touch. He can really shoot the ball,” Mason noted.
Cleveland State, Miami, Pepperdine, Buffalo, and Akron have already offered him, according to his high school coach and he’s garnering big-time interest from Big Ten, ACC, Big East and A10 school, as well, and made unofficial visits to both University of Kansas and Ohio State.
Hugley is just one prospect on Brush, which also has standout point guard D.J. Dial (2019) and guard/wing Andre Harris (2019).
Hugley counts DeMarcus Cousins as has favorite pro hooper, likes math and social studies and started playing in the fifth grade. He started every game of his freshman season and averaged 7.1 points an outing and 6.3 rebounds per game.
