Recruiting Report: Jacob Drees (2019)
Right now, Jacob Drees (2019) is 6’5”, can increasingly play multiple positions, and has a 4.13 GPA. Combine all of that with the fact that he’s in a nice basketball situation with OH-NOVA Russell and Hilliard Davidson, it’s safe to say Drees is on his way to becoming a college basketball player.
“Malone University, Indiana Wesleyan, I’ve talked to Ashland and Lake Erie a little bit too … I’m going to Malone [for a visit] on June 22nd. And I’ve already been to Indiana Wesleyan twice,” Drees told Prep Hoops.
The incoming-junior prospect simply responded “Yeah,” when asked if he “liked” Indiana Wesleyan. His communication with the Hoosier State program continues today. Yet, even though he’s visited the campus twice, Drees is not leaning towards any particular school this early on in the process. Whenever that time comes to make a decision, he’ll be looking closely at the coaching staff.
“A coach that will support you with what you choose to do. And a coach that will be a good leader with you. Stuff like that,” Drees said.
We expect Drees to be a bit of different player by the time he graduates high school. While he plays more of a post/rebounding role for NOVA right now, he’s recently been informed that he’ll spend time as the primary ball-handler for Davidson.
“They want me to play more of the point guard this year because of our personnel. So that’ll push me a little bit, but I’m comfortable with it,” Drees said.
Eventually his role for a college program will depend on the program’s style. What will help Drees is that he should be one of those rare prospects who can honestly fit a number of styles and positions.
Here’s how Drees explained his own vision for himself, four years down the line, “Someone who can cause a matchup problem. Because I can play outside. But if they put a little guy on me, then can go inside and post-up. But if they have a big guy, then I can take him to the hoop.”
Currently, Drees feels confident in his ability to guard positions 2-5. He’s currently working on his quickness, in order to guard opposing point guards.
Drees also plays golf for Davidson, but is certainly a basketball lean. At the moment, he plans on majoring in Business Finance.
