Recruiting Report: Noah Berry (2018)
Since we last interviewed Noah Berry (2018) for a story, he has participated in both a Division IV State Championship and an encouraging on-campus visit.
Foremost, the 6’8” wing/forward prospect was a crucial member to The Wellington School’s postseason run. During that State Tournament, Berry was one of the weekend’s standouts, including a couple memorable face-up moves.
On a personal level, Berry took away some lessons from that experience.
“Late in the season, we kind of had issues within the team. I learned that during those kinds of times, that’s when you really have to stick together and push all of those, um, differences off to the side for a better cause,” Berry said. The versatile forward also went on to mention that the State Champion Lutheran East Falcons also opened his eyes to a different playing style.
The combination of consistent performances, highly publicized high school basketball moments, and the Adidas Gauntlet with OH-NOVA (Tillman), has resulted in Berry drawing the interest of Wheeling Jesuit.
“I actually, couple weeks ago, went down and visited Wheeling Jesuit,” Berry told Prep Hoops.
During our conversation, it became rather clear that Berry enjoyed his time at the West Virginia-based Division II program.
“Even though it’s a Division II school and really small, I feel like it’s a really good fit for me. Class sizes and everything.”
“One thing that really stuck out to me was that one of my high school teammates … he kind of sat there and told me, like oh, ‘That team is the perfect team for you.’ Like, their style of play, they’re all tall and lanky and can play different positions and stuff,” Berry said.
“It seems like I could fit in there and could really thrive in that system,” Berry mentioned, as he continued about Wheeling Jesuit.
Berry hopes to take another visit to Wheeling Jesuit, in order to meet some of their players. He also mentioned that their coaching staff expects to check him out with NOVA in July.
During the grassroots season with NOVA, Berry plays a much lesser offensive role than he does with The Wellington School. While he’s a primary scorer during the winter, Berry is more of a defensive stopper in the summer. He does an excellent job of defending on-ball screens, as he is quick and long enough to switch onto anyone for a possession.
Also, Berry mentioned that he still hears from Ashland on occasion. Otherwise, Wheeling Jesuit has most of his attention right now, when it comes to college recruitment.
