Recruiting Report: Chase Yoho (2018)
When it comes to 5’11” Bellaire High School point guard Chase Yoho (2018), his numbers speak for themselves.
“So we had 24 games and I scored 707 points. So I think that averages out to be about 30,” Yoho said. To be precise, that’s 29.5 per game as a junior.
But it’s not just on the court, his academic numbers also are elite.
“Right now, I believe I have a 3.99 or 3.97. I’m ranked third in my class right now … ACT, I have a 27 so far but I’ve only taken it twice.”
“Although basketball, yes, it’s my passion. I really want to focus on my schooling because I want to become an orthodontist one day, or a dentist. So I kind of need something that will help me out education wise,” Yoho said.
With all that being said, Yoho is yet to receive a scholarship offer thus far. At the moment, he’s actually only been in contact with Franciscan University of Steubenville and West Liberty.
“The only people I’ve heard a couple things from are West Lib, I went and worked out one time. Other than that, I’ve heard a couple things from Franciscan out of Steubenville. But not really a lot as far as recruiting goes,” Yoho said.
Yoho clarified that West Liberty still hasn’t reached back out to him since his on-campus work out a few weeks back.
With all of that taken into consideration, it seems that this is a pretty crucial summer for the incoming senior prospect. Yoho, who is playing in the grassroots season with the Washington Bullets, agrees with that assessment.
“I fell like this summer I really need to push myself to do as much as I can to get looked at,” Yoho said.
Unfortunately for his development, Bellaire is without a head basketball coach currently. He’s also running track this spring.
Bellaire's Chase Yoho went for career-high 51 last night. He set 2 school records. FT makes (26) & attempts (31). The former stood since 67

Even at 5’11”, Yoho scores a lot of points from the free throw line.
“I think I get a load of my points at the foul line. I try to go in there and get the contact taken. But I kind of use the outside shot to set up the drive and everything. Usually it’s getting to the foul line. I think I averaged like 10 or 11 free throws a game last year … I like to believe I play smart. Like I use my body well and pump-fake against the bigger guys and get them in the air,” Yoho said.
Yoho’s ability as a score-first point guard is what will likely pique the interest of recruiters. However, he understands that improvement on defense is what could bring him a scholarship.
“I can pick up full court if you need me to but I’m good with the help defense. I’m good at being back-side if I need to, kind of helping everyone out if they need it … Right now, I just kind of want to get better at my defensive skills. Although offense is definitely important, but I feel like my area of need is on defense,” Yoho said.
It’ll be interesting to see how Yoho’s recruitment develops throughout his final high school season. He’s likely to average staggering scoring numbers once again. Just a matter of if Yoho can find a college program to believe in him or not.
