Recruiting Report: Jaiden Woodley (2018)
Maumee Valley power forward Jaiden Woodley (2018) just finished off a junior season that put him on the map.
Woodley’s high school coach, Rob Conover, told PHO that he’s received inquiries from Adrian, West Liberty, and Lake Erie.
Woodley, a 6’5” junior with a very strong GPA at an elite academic high school, could expand on that list if he follows up this season with a strong summer and senior season. Given his improvements from just a year ago, another jump would come as no surprise.
“I’m probably going to work on my basketball skills — probably work on my dribbling, my shooting. And overall just try to become a better player. Because I think I could have done some things during the season that could’ve helped us win more games,” Woodley said.
Woodley also mentioned that he’d like to become stronger during the summer.
Woodley will not run track this season, to focus more on hoops. Also, he’s a free agent when it comes to AAU. The grassroots team he decides upon could be crucial, as he’s entering the circuit a much more polished player than he was a year ago. Exposure and post touches would be ideal.
When the time comes, he will base his college decision mostly on academics and the campus.
“I’m looking for an open campus, lots of places to visit. Big spaces. I’m looking for good professors,” Woodley said.

Woodley gets a lot of touches in Maumee Valley’s offense. When we saw them last Tuesday, he was able to convert shots with his back to the basket. Also, his face-up game, while sometimes sort of gangly, was effective. If his movements because just a bit more fluid, Woodley could be a potent scorer.
While he does put up big numbers scoring already, Woodley also changes the game on defense.
“If the offense isn’t working for me, I’ll just play good defense. Because I know that’s one way I can affect the game,” Woodley said.
This summer will be an interesting time to see Woodley’s range of skills. Follow @prephoopsOH for updates on Woodley’s process, including which team he will play for this summer.
