Continue ReadingModern post players are drifting towards the perimeter. However, it’s crucial that they maintain the toughness, willingness, and ability, to affect the game on the inside too. When it comes to Greeneview’s 6’7” power forward, Mason Schneider (2018), he checks all the boxes.
Schneider prides himself on rim-protection and rebounding, but he can also step out and shoot the three. He also finds points by beating his guy up the floor and finishing, or byway of post moves.
“This past offseason I really developed a three-point shot. So, even if they’re guarding me on the inside, I can usually find a way to get out there on the perimeter and score,” Schneider said.
“In the post is my strong suit. Offensive rebounding is where I get a lot of easy points at,” Schneider explained.
Although he lines up at the five for Greeneview, this skillset leads us to believe he will be more of a four in college.
Speaking of college, Air Force became the first Division I team to offer this past Sunday. Schneider also has an offer from Division II program Notre Dame (OH). He plans on visiting both schools after the season.
Schneider said he is “definitely considering” Air Force because it sets him up with a career after school. In general, academics will play a large role in his decision.
“As far as my decision goes, I guess, the academics standards are pretty important to me. I keep a 4.0 [GPA], so I have to go somewhere that my parents will respect with that,” Schneider said.
Otherwise, Schneider would like to build a relationship with the coach and find the right style of play.
He did also mention that Ashland and Miami (OH) have sent letters and been in contact.
Going forward, scouts can watch Greeneview in the Dayton 1 District of Division III.
In the summer, Schneider will play with All Ohio Red. This level of competition will allow Schneider to measure himself against some of the nation’s best players.
