Now, just a half-year later, Swackhammer is still landing on new college radars. As validation, the 6’0” point guard was offered by Saint Leo University, a Division II program in Florida.
“I’m not really leaning any way. But I respect the first offer thing. I like that they did that,” Swackhammer said of the Saint Leo offer. He is hoping to visit their campus this summer.
Swackhammer, our #60 rated junior in Ohio, has been taking visits frequently over the past few months.
“I went to Findlay on Saturday. I like it a lot because they’ve kept up with me throughout the summer. And then, I was supposed to go to Urbana but I think I’m going on the 18th now,” Swackhammer said.
“I’ve visited, Colgate, Valparaiso, Ashland, and Indiana Wesleyan, they’ve all been showing quite a bit of interest.”
“I’ve been talking to on a regular basis, VMI, High Point, and West Liberty a little bit, and UT-Martin,” Swackhammer said.
With interest ranging all over the map and from Division I to Division II, what is Swackhammer looking for in a pitch?
“I like what the coaches have to say. I like playing fast, so the tempo that they run. The style of play they have. And, I just like talking to the players and seeing how they like it, how school is going for them. How the teachers work with them with basketball,” Swackhammer said.
While basketball is Swackhammer’s passion, he mentioned that academics are even more important. He’s an elite student, carrying a 4.3 GPA.
The academic résumé could be one of the reasons Colgate University (NY) and Swackhammer have such a mutual interest currently.
“Colgate has been talking to me basically every day, asking me some pretty detailed questions every day. I don’t know, they’re really making me think and I like that … We’ve been feeling each other out,” Swackhammer said.
As far as his junior season with the 11-3 Shermans of Chillicothe Unioto, Swackhammer is putting up 11.9 points and 4.2 assists.
“I wouldn’t say I’m satisfied. We’ve had a good season. We’ve had three losses which is actually the most that I’ve had at this school so far. And I think we should have won all of those games,” Swackhammer said.
On an individual basis, he’s been pleased with his improving finishing skills and becoming more efficient.
They have a game against Paint Valley this coming Friday, which places Swackhammer and Dylan Swingle on the same floor. If you’re in Southeast Ohio that night, here’s your chance to watch two of the best prospects in the area going head-to-head.
